Rehabilitative Services

The George Washington University Hospital's rehabilitation units offer individualized, medically advanced and comprehensive treatment for patients recovering from serious illness, surgery, trauma and other injuries. Whether helping patients regain speech after stroke, walk independently after a traumatic accident or return to the activities they love, we take pride in every gain patients make. Clinical expertise and respect for patients, as well as the pride patients achieve with their own progress, distinguish this program as a leader among its peers.

Acute Rehabilitation focuses on helping patients develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible while recovering from illness or injury that limits their abilities to function. Services include physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

In Outpatient Rehab, Physical Therapists at the Outpatient Rehabilitation Center help to restore strength, improve balance, increase endurance and minimize pain. Services include: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language rehabilitation and a variety of other specialized therapies.

Laboratory

Staying ahead of the curve is easy when it comes to performing clinical and anatomic lab tests in the laboratories at GW Hospital. That’s because you'll be equipped with only the latest technology and automation leading to a plethora of hands-on opportunities to route and advance your lab-based career—in a diversity of specialized laboratories from the consolidated laboratory model to rapid response labs. As an academic teaching hospital, GW Hospital is proactive in bringing new technologies in-house, you can look forward to working on a variety of exciting and innovative projects.

Respiratory

We are seeking experienced Respiratory Therapists who want to work in an environment which fosters positive patient outcomes through a collaborative practice model. The George Washington University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital. The hospital seeks applicants with a strong sense of social responsibility to match the hospital’s commitment to the DC/Metro community.

Respiratory Therapists work in an environment that fosters positive patient outcomes using a collaborative practice model. The Respiratory Therapists at GW work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide ventilator management with the goal of ventilator liberation. At GW, we utilize protocols to offer the most effective therapy for our patients. We are an integral part of several research projects that will help determine future respiratory pathways to improve cost-effectiveness and high-quality care. Our future endeavors include trauma transports, enhancing and supporting ECMO therapy, and participating in high-risk deliveries to assist with resuscitation and stabilizing any critically ill infant.
